Merite’s Kitchen Website

An e-commerce ordering platform that puts authentic Nigerian and African meals from Morecambe directly in front of UK customers, with a pickup-optimised WooCommerce store, real-time menu browsing, and an ordering cutoff system that protects the kitchen’s daily fresh-cook commitment.

Merite's Kitchen had built something genuinely rare: a Nigerian and African food kitchen in Morecambe, UK, where every meal is cooked fresh on the day of collection. Merit brought 17 years of personal catering experience and 25 years of family culinary heritage to every dish. What she lacked was any way for customers to find her, browse the menu, or place an order without already knowing her WhatsApp number. The kitchen was operating at a fraction of its capacity, constrained entirely by discoverability.

Without a website, every new customer required a personal introduction. Every order required a manual WhatsApp conversation. Menu items, prices, and availability changed, but there was no single place customers could check. The ordering cutoff, critical for a kitchen committed to cooking fresh on the day, had no reliable way to communicate or enforce itself digitally. For a business cooking four days a week to a strict schedule, this was a direct ceiling on growth.

Merite's Kitchen Website
We started by mapping the kitchen's actual operational rhythm: four cooking days a week, strict 8pm cutoff for next-day orders, pickup only from LA4 5SJ, Morecambe. Every decision had to serve those constraints. The ordering system needed to communicate the cutoff clearly, the menu had to reflect live availability, and checkout had to confirm the right pickup day automatically, with no room for a customer to place an order that couldn't be fulfilled.

We built the site on WordPress with WooCommerce, configuring a pickup-only ordering system with day selection, automatic cutoff enforcement, and clear pickup window communication at every stage of checkout. Customers can browse the full menu filtered by category or dietary preference, read detailed dish descriptions, and complete an order in minutes without a single WhatsApp message.

The site covers five functional areas: the ordering and menu system; an About page that positions Merit's personal story and family catering heritage as the genuine trust signal it is; a Contact page with multi-channel access including WhatsApp, email, community link, and Instagram; a clear FAQ addressing common pre-order questions about freshness, allergies, and collection; and a My Account portal for returning customers. Every page uses the approved brand identity, colour palette, and tone established in the visual identity phase.

Mobile was the primary design environment throughout. We knew the majority of Merite's Kitchen's customers would arrive via Instagram, open the site on their phone, and need to complete an order in the same session. Every layout was validated on mobile first. The desktop experience is complete, but no decision was finalised without first confirming it worked correctly on a small screen.
