Your Passion, Your Purpose And Your Career
Since I started youth and teens counselling, 90% of the questions I have always had to answer have been in these three areas – Your Passion, Your Purpose And Your Career. A lot of young people grow up with serious confusion in these area and it has led to frustrations for many and depression. One of the reasons for this is that a lot of young people grew up without having a touch with their childhood. Passion is a gift nature gives us to discover ourselves in the early stages of life. Missing this will result into a lot of doubts later on in life.
How does purpose relate with passion?
Your purpose on the other hand, is being able to find a place of relevance in your passion. Purpose is what gives direction to the flames of passion. Purpose is finding your niche, your zone of importance to life and humanity though your passion. In order words, purpose is when your passion begins to serve humanity by solving problems and answering questions that men are having. This is to tell us that those passions you displayed as you grew up were not just for fun. They are proverbs or dark saying, indicating the areas of your usefulness and relevance in life.
I grew up with serious passion for creativity, arts and technology. I grew up to be very curious about almost everything, very inquisitive, artistic and thorough. I pay so much attention to details and I love my space. I can stand at a point, observe people and things, read patterns, make deductions and analyse situations step by step. Whenever I see anything beautiful or artistic, my mind immediately goes into work, trying to unravel the secrets behind it. That was me as a child and till now, that is me.
You won’t be surprised that I studied Microbiology in school, currently building a formidable brand in the area of brand designs and strategy, clarity coaching and academic coaching. It was a mix of several artistic talents. You may be impressed to also know that I sing and play the keyboard so well. These were my childhood passions that I have built into platforms for solving problems and serving my purpose to the world.
Relationship between talent and passion.
I need to let you know that you can only be talented in your line of passion. You can’t have a different talent from your passion. Passion and talent work together. Why? Talent doesn’t mean you’re the best at something and you wouldn’t need to learn. It simply means you have that undue advantage in learning it faster than anyone would. It simply means, you’ve got that extra spice to add to it when you’re exhibiting it. Meanwhile, passion is the drive that pushes you into deep learning and unbeatable heights in that area of talent. Having established this, let’s move on to career.
Definition of Career.
What is a career? Your career is not what you studied in school and got a certificate for. Your career is the series of experiences, development phases and relationships you have built over a quality period of time. Your career is not your current occupation or job that you’re doing for a monthly pay. No! For you to call something a career, it means you have a long-term goal of reaching the pinnacle of that endeavour or field. It’s more like a ladder and you climb it step-by-step.
Relationship between your purpose and your career.
Your career is, like we have previously explained, your life journey. Your purpose is therefore, your life assignment. Your carry out the assignment while you go on the journey. That’s the best relationship I have ever been able to coin. Your career is that journey you’re embarking on as you go through the corporate world while your purpose is the series of impact you’re making as you go through that journey which you will be remembered for, by the people you’re meeting along the way and those you are leaving behind.
You see, there is a lot more you need to understand about your life, how to build a career, the things you need to consider before choosing a career ladder to follow and how to discover your true purpose which you will stay committed to, as you journey on. However, I can’t say them all in this post, but there is a book I have put together that will help me do that. Would you like to have a copy of that book? You can get it here.
If you have other questions, please, don’t hesitate to ask me. I remain your clarity coach and your clarity remains my priority.
